Abstract: From the informational perspective, cyclicity is the most powerful factor of order and predictability (negentropy) of form, while the vector focus serves as the major and immediate bearer of new information. This paper aims to systematize the main types of cyclic recurrence in musical forms within the European tradition. Among the objectives is to elucidate the meaning capacity of the named forms. Although the paper uses the term “cyclic recurrence” instead of “cyclicity”, in the French tradition of form analysis, represented primarily by Vincent d’Indy, cyclicity refers to recurrence (a cyclical theme is a recurrent theme) [see: Rovenko, 2021].

Keywords: cyclicity, narrative, vector striving, Richard Wagner, myths, the European music of XIX-XX centuries, information
