THE PERCEPTION OF POWER DISTANCE IN RUSSIA AND IN ITALY: SYMMETRICAL AND ASYMMETRICAL TRAITS

Abstract: Symmetry as a concept related to harmony, relation of parts, due proportion and balance is recurring throughout nature, science, and human actions. The same principle, therefore, involves social and anthropological sciences, as well as intercultural communication (Günthner-Luckmann 2001, Pelkey 2022). This presentation, according to Hofstede’s model, will take into account the analysis of Power Distance (PD) in Russian and Italian cultures in a comparative perspective of findings. PD is intended as the measure of how power and power relationships are distributed in a society and how they are perceived unequally by the less powerful members (Hofstede, Hofstede, Minkov, 2010).
Keywords: Intercultural Communication, Power Distance, Symmetry/Asymmetry in social interaction, Italian/Russian culture.
