Abstract: This work introduces a hypothesis, according to which, Christian symbols and ideas derived from them, stemming from d’Indy’s religious state of mind:
1) determine the semantic aspects of d’Indy’s oeuvres through focusing on two principles: ternary (based on ideas of Trinity, three virtues etc.) and that of binarity;
2) influence also the very architectonics of d’Indy’s opuses belonging to the “la musique de la parole” sphere in terms of how these principles are projected into musical form and how mirror symmetry is produced. Our aim consists of revealing the ways in which mirror symmetry is embodied in the composer's opuses, and the correlations between extra-musical sense-layer serve as our main focus of investigation.
