FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SYMMETRY: A SHORT ESSAY ON THE TV DRAMA “HOUSE M.D.”

Abstract: This paper provides a brief and general overview of the concept of symmetry as examined through the perspective of the TV series “House M.D.”. It compares the narrative structure, characters, and development of the TV series with Sherlock Holmes, a series that it emulates and that is characteristic of classic detective literature. The ten reviews are limited in their discussion of how symmetry is not only a mathematical or scientific concept but can be an important element in storytelling, how character traits and plot reflect traditional narratives, and how it provides subjectification as well as familiarity. The paper briefly articulates a symmetrical patterning of “House M.D.” as a modern interpretation of classical themes, with initial review findings highlighting the use of equivalence, isomorphism, and homeomorphism to analyse these relationships.
