Abstract: A statistical approach is made in an attempt to clarify the distribution of minerals according to their dominant colour. The data display an almost equal distribution of the number of achromatic (white-grey-black) and chromatic minerals. In the achromatic group, with a large percentage of dark coloured species, are minerals in the Cubic and Tetragonal Systems. High variability of chromatic species is found among minerals in the Monoclinic, Tetragonal and Triclinic Systems.
