THE FAÇADE COMPOSITION OF VILLA SNELLMAN (ERIK GÜNNAR ASPLUND, 1917): A MANIFESTO OF MODERNITY

Abstract: Like Alvar Aalto’s early work, Erik Günnar Asplund’s Snellman Villa (1917) is one of those buildings that mark the turning point between late neoclassical architecture and the Modern Movement. If its architectural vocabulary can be considered a part of the classical tradition, then the dynamic composition of the plan, and the façades convey a modern vision of space that is based on dynamism and fluidity.
